DeVINE, James W. ''Jim'' Age 57 of Fairfield Township passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 23, 1948 in Cincinnati the son of Arnold and Virginia (nee Rice) DeVine. He was a 1966 graduate of Garfield High School, was a veteran of the US Army, and completed his college degree at Xavier and Miami Universities. On July 2, 1993 in Darrtown, he married Kim McDaniel. Jim received his electrician's degree in 1977, the applied science electrician technician degree in 1990, and the associates of applied electrical engineering degree in 1997. Jim was a master Mason and had just become the 2006 Worshipful Master of Benjamin Franklin Lodge #719. He was a member of the Monkey Mutual Aide Society, and rang the bells for the Salvation Army for 7 years. He served as Santa Claus for the Moose Lodge #501, held past positions for the American Legion and the Middletown Eagles #528, was a member of the York Rite, the Scottish Rite, the Shrine, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He also coached in the Pony Tail League, was past president and secretary of the Hamilton Evening Optimist club, and was a Optimist Soccer Tournament worker. Jim worked for Southern Ohio Steel for several years and in 1979 was awarded the maintenance Man of the Year. He also worked for 18 years as the head electrician at the Warren Correctional Institution, and implemented the lock-out/tag-out system at the institution. He was past senior steward at Warren Correctional and it was Jim's idea to have inmates sew teddy bears for nursing homes, of which he personally delivered for the past eight years. One of the last jobs he accomplished as a volunteer was building the Masonic float for the July 4th parade, as well as future uses. He was raising his beloved grandchildren, Hayley and Tyler for the past 4 1/2 years and has been their father in his heart and theirs. Jim is survived by his wife, Kim DeVine; five children, Kim Mullens, Michelle (Keith) Noll, Yvonne Lawson, Janae Truzack, and John Besanceney; twelve grandchildren, Zachary M., Stephanie, Zachary S., Karson, Ashton, Jaden, Trey, Nikki, Michael, Noah, Hayley, and Tyler; five brothers, Edward DeVine, John DeVine, Patrick (Sharon) DeVine, Robert (Denise) DeVine, and Stephen DeVine; three sisters, Cheryl (Bruce) Jackson, Christine (Les) Thomas, and Valaria (Augie) Augusterfer; his mother, Virginia DeVine. Jim is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Visitation 5-8 PM Friday at The Webster Funeral Home, 3080 Homeward Way at Rt. 4, Fairfield. Benjamin Franklin Masonic Lodge # 719 will conduct the Masonic service on Friday at 7:00 PM, followed by the Scottish Rite Ring ceremony. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the funeral home with Rev. Glenn Martin, officiating.
