Garfield Class of 1966 Guestbook
Hello everybody. I just came accross this website and wanted to join in. After graduation I joined the Air Force and stayed for 20 years, traveling around the U.S. and several other countries. After retiring for the AF I moved to Colorado for about 20 years. I moved to outside Detroit Michigan last year. It is good to hear what some others have been doing. Hope to hear from some of you.

I wrote a few lines back in April. You can call this confession 42 years late. In 1966 when yearbooks came out whenever I was asked to sign one(and in a few I was not asked-ones I found unattended) I got the idea to write, "From Russia-With Love!" from the James Bond movie. I don't recall how many in total there were but it may have been up to around 50. So-just in case it has puzzeled anyone all these years-I am the culprit. I was a bit shy then but have fond memories of GHS and all there. I live a way off so may not get to any reunions but wish all well. Thank You-Fred Hahn

I checked in to write a few lines last May, I think. Any way you can call this confession time 42 years later. In 1966 when yearbooks came out every year book I was asked to sign(and a few I wasn't-ones I saw laying unattended) I got the bright idea to write , "From Russia-With Love"!(From the James Bond movie. I did this in a different hand and with an alternate colored pen if I had one. I can't recall how many year books I signed this way(possibly up to 50) but just in case anyone out there was wondering after all these years-I am the culprit. I have good memories of GHS and those years though I was a bit shy. Hope all are well and, if I ever get that way at reunion time, I would love to see some of you. Thanks: Fred Hahnm

Just wanted to know how the reunion went on August 1? My Mom is in ICU at Mercy Hospital and could not make it. At first I was just going to make a visit and pay at the door and then my Mom had emergency surgery. She still is in ICU at this writing. Just wanted to see how things went. Please put your comments in the guest book. You would be surprised how many people are just surfing and run across us.

Hello everyone. My name is Karen Thompson and I was a friend of Bill Swink's for almost three decades. For those who have asked about Bill, he passed away from brain cancer. He had started passing out around Thanksgiving, and the MRI results at the hospital showed two brain tumors. He went through chemo and radiation to no avail, and a third tumor formed. He had a seizure in April and went into a coma state, unable to speak anymore or do anything, although his eyes were open and he seemed to understand what was being said to him. He was transferred to Hospice and left us on April 22. If anyone has any more questions, please feel free to email me(kthom12230@aol.com). I am homebound and am always here to answer the phone. I know that Bill loved his classmates from the Class Of '66; he talked to me about the reunions, etc., and all the fun he had with all of you. I also attended Garfield, but I was in the Class of '71. I was born and raised in Hamilton, but Bill and I didn't meet until 1980 here in Tampa. I know he will be sorely missed by many, many people - both here in Tampa and back home in Hamilton.

I was surfing the web a few months ago researching an article I was writing when I came upon the 66 Garfield web site. What a pleasant surprise! I left Ohio in 1968 to attend college in Missouri and only get back when visiting my two brothers-one in Hanmilton and one in Cincy.
I graduated from seminary in 1973 then graduagte work at Cincinnati Christian seminary. I married Jerre Herrin(GHS class of 68 and we have been married for 38 years now) I held ministries in Minnesota, Indiana, Texas and Missouri. In addition I have been a trainer in the Houston Texas corporate office for Little Caesar's Pizza, an insurance manager and am now a full time customer service representative for AT&T in Joplin Missouri. We have three gron children and six grand children(4 in Texas and the other 2 here with us in Missouri). I am too long already so will just say that I think often of the faces and years at GHS. From the reunion pictures it seems most have aged well. I want to thank Willa for all the work you are doing to keep the thread in the fabric of our memory. I'll sign off now and touch bases at another time. Just letting you all know I am still alive and that there is still fondness for Hamilton, the Griffs and all my GHS classmates-Fred Hahn

It is great to see the new entries. Just keep it up and tell everyone you know about our website. While I am on here does any of the GW Eagles remember a girl named Connie Cole? She moved away when we were 7th or 8th grade. I would love to know where she is. Winnie I remember you fondly. You were funny and one of the sweetest. Keep in touch. Mike and Donna get back here for the next reunion. Johnny Prather stop back at our guest book and tell your friends. Did you have a sister that graduated with us?

Hello
This is Sandy (Torbett) Bowling. Some of you know that after graduation I went to California where I lived for 35 years. In 1999 I relocated to Columbia South Carolina where my only child, a son(Doug)lives and my mother has
retired. Now I live alone and work at Harsco Track Technologies in the Accounting Department. Harsco is
a manufacturer of Railway Maintenance Equipment and Repair Parts and have divisions worldwide. Doug enlisted in the Army right out of high school in 1987. Did 4 years then went to USC (University of South Carolina) where he graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. Doug is married to Carol and they have 2 adorable children, Leanna age 4 and Jay age 2. Carole is a 4th grade school teacher and Doug has had a career in Criminal Justice and was in Army NG Reserves but 4 years ago he changed his career to work full time for the South Carolina Army National Guard with a position for Homeland Security -Weapons of Mass Destruction Unit. He is a Captain now and was deployed to Afghanistan in May 2007 Overseeing US coalition training of Afghani Army and Police. So Willa I know about the constant worry. I'm sorry to hear that David has been hit and hope he returns home soon. I have often thought about your Mom and Dad. We sure had some good times in "The Midnight Hour"

Hello everyone. It sure doesn't seem like we are having to many entries in our guest book. So if you are surfing and just came across our great web site, type in and tell us what is going on in your life. There is some that don't get to hear from anyone unless it is on this web site. So let's fire this thing up and get it started. I am still married for 38 years and my kids are all old. David is in Iraq and due to come home soon. He has been hit twice and he is up for the Bronze Star with Valor and maybe a Purple Heart. He has been very lucky and I have been a nervous wreck. Stacie is married and has had three children. We lost the second one with a heart condition. The other two are healthy and growing. I should mention that David has two and when he isn't giving his mother a heart attack he lives in Kansas. Ok, now my number three child Jamie, lives in Cincinnati(Oakley) and he works for the Cincinnati Reds in Media Relations. Not married yet but we are hoping soon. He has a very nice girlfriend. My parents are still living in Lindenwald and are just great. We moved out of Lindenwald about four years ago into the Fairfild Township area. I love it out here. I still work for the Hamilton City Schools and hope to retire soon. So thats my story for now. So the rest of you get on here and let us know what is going on with you or I will keep getting on and boring you death. Go Griffins Willa

The combined Garfield Classes of 1961 thru 1969 was a hugh success. We had a great time seeing alot of people we normally don't see at our reunion. The combined classes is a great way to go to have a nice reunion. We are planning another one with just the ice breaker format for next year. We will have more details at a later date. If you were not there you missed a fantastic time. Thanks to all of the committee members.

It is becasue I have dated two girls from the class of 66 and realy don't want to see them again, and have relationship within the past few years. They will remain unnamed. (But you can write me and maybe I will tell you.) So now with having a relationship with someone from the class of 66 is out of the question. So I hope everyone is having a better life than I am. Here are some notes from the last meeting.
The next meeting is NOVEMBER 11, 2003. We will meet at Bob's again I guess.
Not much decided except that each class needs to contact as many classmates as possible to see how many they think will attend in 2005.
The class of 1968 will hold their reunion on Sat. Oct 25th at the FOP hall in Fairfield. They will talk to those that attend their reunion about the combined reunion in 2005. Our next meeting will be just a couple of weeks after their reunion.
I think it is important for you, Joe, and Louie to attend the next meeting. It is hard for any decisions to be made if you are not there.
Sue Hawkins got some info from Tori's Station and it looks like they can handle a group from 50 to 500 with no problem. She gave Randy Petticord a copy of the menu so we could see the prices.
At the next meeting I think we need to decide how finances will be handled, who is going to attack what tasks, and set some dates for getting money in hand so we can put a deposit on the hall no later than mid 2004. That's about it for now. Steve Fisher was there for the class of '66. Julian Parsons and Jerry Rose were there for '68. Randy was there for '67 and Cynthia and I were there for '65.

Ok all of you Griffins, get ready. It looks like we will be getting the ball rolling for the big 65 and 66 reunion. As long as everyone stays healthy. We are aiming for the first Wednesday in March for an organizational meeting. Just waiting to hear back from JD White. Stay posted to this web site for further information. We will need helpers to get this off the ground. So get off of your butts and give a little time. It really has been fun to do all these years. It only gets a little overwhelming when there is little help. But we have a lot of fun and it always is a joy to find a lost classmate. So please consider helping make this one of the best. I will post the times and place. Lets go Griffins. Willa

Had I stayed in school, I would have graduated in 1965. After my father passed away, I moved around quite a bit. I went to George Washington J.H. and then on to Reilly School,
then to Seven Mile. I went to Garfield for a short time then quit school. I did finally get my GED and went on to
college. I was raising a family at that time, but it was worth it.

I remember Gary and he was a great guy. Just a thought for all to remember. Gary was a great football player for our school. The funny side of this is we just didn't know when Gary was going to take one of the opposing players out of the game with one punch. We will be cheering Gary on for the football team in the sky. GO GARY. He will be missed, God Bless.

I am with Jim. This is something so serious and it will involve our children. If you haven't all ready, stop and take a good look around and be grateful for every thing you hold dear to your heart. Now we have just a little taste of what our parents went through with Viet Nam. I am not afraid to say that I am scared. God Bless the USA. Love to all of you, and thank you to the ones that went to Viet Nam.

I would like to take this time to say thank you to all who serve as Police Officers, Firefighters, & a heart felt thanks to those who are serving in our armed forces right now. We of the class of 66 can remember Vietnam, and a lot of us won't forget it. This is a differant war we are in now. Be proud to be an American, Fly the flag . Show your support to our country, its leaders and our armed forces. I don't want to hear anymore about Ben Laden other than he has been captured or found dead. Lets don't make him a hero with all of the jokes about him. He is a murdering fool. GOD BLESS AMERICA. Say thank you to a Police Officer, Fireman, & or a Armed forces person. You need no reason , other than they are doing a job that no one else wants to do. To one of the 60's hero's in my eyes. Eddie Mooney, God rest his soul. He gave for his country, and I miss him. I no your looking down Eddie and yes I know that you want be in the middle of this fight also. Thank you all who have served and are now serving.

Sandy Hibbard Shelley called me on my birthday (I am 38 again for the 15th time) as she does every year and told me about the website. I got the biggest kick from seeing so many of you again and some faces I haven't seen for many, mnay years....Sharon Osborne! I remember practicing cheerleading in her basement for hours. Then I emailed Willa and she said I should sign the guest book. So here goes..........
I have 5 kids, Ryan 23, Griffin 22, Logan (girl) 20, Erin 18 and Keegan 16. Ryan owns his own company, Griffin goes to University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Logan is "finding herself" (My test in life), Erin is at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Keegan is a sophmore in high school. After 19 years I divorced and am perpetually engaged, can't seem to do it again, with a guy I have been with for 10 years. I have my own busines in Evergreen Colorado selling promotional products and logo apparel. I have designed school spirit wear and have the most fun working with kids to create items they wear and use as fundraisers. I love to ski and Keystone, Breckenridge, and Vail are within 1-2 hours of our home. We live 8,000 feet in the mountains. Evergreen is a po-dunk town with alot of throwbacks from the 60's and 70's. When you drive through if you blink you will miss downtown. I will try very hard to get to the next reunion. I come to Ohio at least once a year and I talked to Sandy about trying to get some of you together the next time I get back. Again, I enjoyed the pictures and seeing all of you!

This is just a sad note for the class of 1966. Our very dear friend and "adopted secretary", Missy Gibbs, passed away Monday September 3,2001. It was aneurism of the brain. Missy helped us out a great deal with our reunion. She made up the forms, located people, labels and recorded all the addresses for us. Missy was the best. Our heart felt prayers will go out to Joe and Gabe. Funeral services will be Thrusday 11 to 1 at the First Methodist Church on Ludlow and Second the funeral will follow with burial at Rose Hill.

Thanks to everyone there. It was a great time. Sorry some of the rest of you could not make it. And to all of you that have not made a reunion, you are missing a good time. I still think we had a good class and for the most part everyone got a long and still to this day gets along. It really seems like one big family. I have called on people to help me out and they are more than willing to help. Jim Rhule could not make it but he did help me find a few people. Those things don't go unnoticed. Thanks Jim. And for Kenny, you have out done yourself with this web site. I know you have a few more ideas and it will be the best web site around. Thank you again. But please, when you run into another classmate and they have never been to a reunion, let them know what they are missing. We need to keep this going for as long as we can. The three classes does seem like a good idea. I hope there is more who will agree to that. But thanks to everyone. Willa

I had a great time at the reunion! Garfield produced some great people. I have all three yearbooks and several reunion books to add information to the website. Check back occasionally to see what has been added. I'm adding pictures for the 35th reunion as well as a directory of all our classmates. Click on your name it will show your profile and pictures from the senior year plus the newest picture we have from past reunions. If anyone has something send it or email it to me. I hope to add Real Video of the Blues Brothers.

Hi Willa and classmates. I'm still in the St. Louis area. I have a new job. I'm working at Anheuser-Busch World Headquarters as an MIS Manager of Management Systems Group Communications. I recently received the Chancellor's Certificate from the University of St. Louis,MO for Web Page Design. I was engaged twice, but never took the final leap of faith. :-) After I left Garfield, I was a hairdresser for 1 1/2 years, then became a drummer in a rock/show band. My sister Mick was in the band also. I ended up in St. Louis after auditioning for a large show band and just stayed here after my band days were over. After travelling around the country and outside the country, I went to McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois to get my BS in Computer Science. I have 2 Priest friends who I'm convinced were sent as my guardian angels after my beloved mom died and they are still 2 of my best friends.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. I can't believe it's been 35 years. But we did have the best class, didn't we? See Ya!

Okay Willa here goes. After graduation I finished my apprenticeship as a tool and die maker. Shortly after I decided I didnt want to spend my work life in a factory and went through an apprenticeship as electrician. In 1980 I moved to Idaho and in 86 completed my requirements for a degree in computer science and in 90 retired from being a electrician and started my own computer service
company. I sold the company in 96 and moved to Virginia where I remarried my high school sweetheart Sheryl Blanton and after a 3 year stay in Akansas we moved to Tennessee where we are currently living. I have just started another computer service company
working out of my home. Hope to have a great time at my first reunion.

Well Willa you were mean to me in high school and I see that hasn't changed. You sure are pushy when it comes to getting people interested . Just to let everyone know I have retired from Police work and I now work part time at a golf course. The days I have off I'm playing golf. I have a great family who now live in Hamilton. I have a daughter who is 30 and lives two blocks away from me. That is why my hair went to that shade of grey. I have a son who is a Lt. on the Hamilton Fire Dept. He really doesn't drive me nuts , he is still trying to beat me in golf. Been married to my best friend for going on 35 years now and I think I'll keep her. It was really great to see that Mary Jo Wheeler has made contact with the site. I must say I have been hanging out on the Hamilton High Alumni Site. Well I have to go for now. I was so glad to see our 35th reunion posted. I really have missed going to the last few. I hope to attend this year as Roy and I should be in the tri-state area at the time. As many of you know, I married Roy Carmack who graduated the year after us. We have been married for 31 years and have two sons (Paul [29] and Bill [27]) and 3 grandchildren (Izzabella [9]. Robin [8] and Drezden [4]). We have been self-employed for many years in many businesses, but three years ago we made a big change and moved to Florida to be near my family. We have a home here, but for six months out of the year we travel to fairs and festivals all over the country selling jewelry we design and create ourselves. I work with gemstones and Roy weaves with gold 14k wire and gemstones. We have a 32 foot motorhome we travel in but at the end of six months it feels like a very small box. We hope to see you in July. We are trying to keep that weekend open to get together with old friends.

HEY Willa-got your e-mail and you told me to sign guestbook and say who-what-where-when-why, so....I got married 4/67, had a son, got un-married in 1982, graduated (finally) from nursing school (Raymond Walters)in 1977, worked as a psychiatric RN @ Cincinnati General, for 10 yrs, then @ Good Sam, 2+ yrs. Got tired of Ohio and moved to Calif. in 1990, with my boyfriend Levi.(still together!) I worked at San Fran. General (what a hell-hole~!) for a few yrs, and then drifted around a few nursing jobs for awhile, before finally burning out completely. I now am no longer working due to chronic illness/disability- severe fibromyalgia. My son is now 33 yrs old and lives in Tallahassee; I have one grand-daughter, she just turned 5, and is smarter than I ever was. I still live in Calif. and am a licensed hummingbird rehabilatator--I take care of sick/injured/orphaned humm-birds, and release them back to the wild. Beats psychiatric nursing any day! So that's it in a nutshell( ha ha--pun intended, still crazy after all these yrs!) Would love to hear from anyone. We're gettin OLD! :-((
